The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for creating the vision and implementing technology to enhance the firm’s investment and client service capabilities. She/he is also responsible for providing the direction and delivery of all information technology systems supporting the firm’s operations on a global basis. Primary responsibilities for the CTO include developing and implementing a firm-wide technology strategy and roadmap that aligns with the company’s systems, projects and business needs. The CTO will evolve the Technology organization to one that is recognized as a value-added business partner critical to the company’s success. In addition, they will ensure the technology ‘brand’ of the firm is elevated; this will improve talent attraction and ensure retention of top technologists. Reporting directly to the COO, the CTO will lead all ongoing technology initiatives and create a cutting-edge technology culture. The CTO will proactively build relationships across the firm, collaborate effectively, and develop a strong team to anticipate and meet the technology needs of the firm.

The Person

The successful candidate will have a strong background in technology, ideally within complex quantitative/Professional Services environments. This individual will demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for technology. She/he must have a proven track-record of building and leading high performing technology teams, including those with application development, architecture and infrastructure responsibilities. This individual will be recognized as a leader and a technology subject matter expert, adept at developing strategies and plans, leading positive change, focused on continuous improvement, managing complex projects as well as expectations, and building business partner relationships within and beyond the firm.

Technical Innovation and Creativity: Generate new and innovative approaches to problems through technology solutions. Has the experience comparing and understanding the trends and benefits of new tools, languages, methodologies and products which can potentially offer the company a competitive advantage and create value for the investment teams.

Execution Focused and Results-oriented: Able to translate business goals into specific objectives for team members and vendors alike and hold himself or herself and others accountable for results. Keep the organization energized and focused on key priorities utilizing metrics to drive execution. Navigate complex projects with the ability to consider the needs of varied stakeholders and regulatory requirements. Engage directly with issues and possess a “roll up the sleeves” working style to achieve superior outcomes. Combine tenacity with a sense of urgency to drive tasks to completion.

Requirements

  • Senior Technology leadership experience. Has served in a senior technology role in a complex front-office environment.
  • Experience managing teams and has a track-record of attracting, motivating and developing technology talent.
  • Proven success driving technology innovation. History of fueling creative and innovative solutions for the future.
  • Track record of achieving business goals through their technology strategy.
  • Possesses a combination of application development, package integration, product control, architecture and infrastructure operations experience.
  • Business focused leader who is highly respected as a business partner with other functions in the firm.
  • Industry experience: investment management experience, specifically working with front office teams, though other associated experience from quantitative and data-driven industries may be considered.
  • Deep understanding of accounting and investment processes and the difference between investment research tools and investment production systems and how to build and implement both.
  • Understanding and previous experience with ISO Certification and SOC 2 compliance.
  • Preferably experienced with Resource Management Systems, SalesForce, Time Management systems, Slack, Google and Microsoft Suites.
  • Data focus: past experiences with an emphasis on data architecture and data utilization.
  • Unquestionable integrity.
