About the Position

Distillery is seeking a well-rounded Machine Learning & AI Data Scientist with a strong foundation in traditional machine learning techniques and a passion for building from scratch. This role is ideal for someone who excels at designing data pipelines, developing machine learning models, and solving complex problems in unstructured environments. You’ll work across pattern recognition, anomaly detection, feature engineering, and automation of data workflows. The ideal candidate will blend a traditional data science background with a forward-thinking mindset, contributing innovative ideas and collaborating as a thought partner with leadership and cross-functional teams.



Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy robust machine learning models for pattern detection, anomaly detection, and emergent trend identification.
  • Design, automate, and optimize data pipelines that handle structured and unstructured data from diverse sources.
  • Engineer features and variables for model development, ensuring accuracy and scalability.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and leadership teams to conceptualize and develop innovative solutions from the ground up.
  • Apply both traditional ML techniques and Generative AI (GAI) methodologies to solve business problems.
  • Contribute as a thought partner by challenging assumptions, offering creative solutions, and driving experimentation.


Requirements

  • Proven experience with traditional machine learning algorithms, including regression models, decision trees, clustering, and classification techniques.
  • Strong expertise in designing and automating data pipelines using tools like Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or similar platforms.
  • Solid background in anomaly detection, pattern recognition, and trend analysis.
  • Proficiency with data engineering tools and working knowledge of SQL, Python, and cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience with feature engineering and handling complex datasets from multiple sources (structured and unstructured).
  • Familiarity with agents and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures is a plus.
  • Exposure to Generative AI applications is beneficial but not required.
  • High intellectual curiosity with a proactive approach to learning and experimenting.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset—constantly driven to explore new tools, techniques, and solutions.
  • Strong collaboration skills, acting as a true thought partner who challenges ideas and sparks innovation.
  • Ability to take projects from concept to execution independently, without needing step-by-step guidance.


Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Experience working with Microsoft tools and platforms in a production environment.
  • Strong background in automating business processes through data workflows and machine learning.
