The world’s most innovative technology teams choose Distillery to help accelerate strategic innovation, fill a pressing technology gap, and hit mission-critical deadlines. We support essential applications, mobile apps, websites, and eCommerce platforms by placing senior, strategic technical leaders and deploying fully managed technology teams that work intimately alongside our client’s in-house development teams.

At Distillery, we’re not here to reinvent nearshore software development — we’re on a mission to perfect it. Distillery is committed to diversity and inclusion. We actively seek to cultivate a workforce that reflects the rich tapestry of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences present in our society. Our recruitment efforts are dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for all candidates, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other dimension of diversity.

About the Position

Distillery is seeking a highly skilled Senior Frontend Engineer to help build modern, high-performance web experiences. You will work with React, Next.js 14+, and TypeScript to deliver scalable, accessible, and visually polished applications. This role involves close collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams, translating Figma designs into pixel-perfect UIs and integrating content through modern CMS platforms such as Sanity.

We’re looking for a proactive engineer who communicates clearly, iterates quickly, and thrives in a fast-paced, product-focused environment. Strong front-end architecture, accessibility, performance optimization, and familiarity with modern tooling are essential. Experience in e-commerce is a major plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain Next.js and React applications, ensuring scalability and performance.
  • Implement and manage CMS integrations (Sanity or similar) to support content-driven experiences.
  • Utilize A/B testing tools to enhance user engagement and product effectiveness.
  • Write clean, modular, and well-documented TypeScript/JavaScript code following best practices.
  • Ensure responsive, accessible, and user-friendly designs, working closely with UX/UI designers.
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, optimizing rendering and load times.
  • Collaborate in an Agile environment, contributing to sprint planning, code reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Work closely with engineering managers, product managers, and engineers across teams to design and develop scalable, high-performing systems.
  • Identify and champion new technologies and design patterns that drive business growth and system efficiency.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.
  • Establish and enforce best practices, coding standards, and development guidelines to enhance consistency and efficiency across teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience building modern, responsive web applications.
  • Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Next.js (14+ preferred) — including App Router, Server Components, and Route Handlers.
  • Strong experience translating Figma designs into pixel-perfect UIs using advanced CSS (Grid, Flexbox, design tokens, animations).
  • Hands-on experience integrating and customizing Sanity CMS (schemas, GROQ queries, Studio customization) or similar headless CMS.
  • Solid understanding of frontend architecture, component design patterns, and state management.
  • Strong command of accessibility standards (WCAG), semantic HTML, and best practices for inclusive design.
  • Deep knowledge of performance optimization, including Core Web Vitals, rendering optimization, and performance budgets.
  • Experience writing reliable automated tests (Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or similar).
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD workflows and tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Storybook, Vercel/edge).
  • Experience working in fast-paced, product-oriented environments with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently while maintaining tight collaboration with Product Design.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices (metadata, sitemaps, structured data).
  • Experience using feature flags, scope slicing, and iterative delivery methods.
  • E-commerce experience is a strong plus.
