About the Position

As a Back-End Engineer, you will contribute to the development and evolution of a production-grade Laravel application used by a major consulting firm. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and high-performing backend services, applying software engineering best practices to deliver reliable solutions that support business-critical workflows.

You will work closely with front-end engineers, product stakeholders, and other backend developers to design APIs, optimize data flows, and contribute to architectural decisions that ensure long-term maintainability and scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including front-end engineers, product, and stakeholders, to understand requirements and translate them into robust backend solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs using Laravel and PHP 8.x.
  • Build and evolve relational data models, including schema design, migrations, and query optimization in SQL Server.
  • Participate actively in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making processes.
  • Ensure backend performance, reliability, and scalability through best practices in caching, authentication, and data consistency.
  • Identify and address technical risks related to performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following modern PHP and Laravel best practices.
  • Mentor peers, share knowledge, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and clean code.
  • Support production systems, contributing to troubleshooting, bug fixing, and incremental improvements.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience building and maintaining production-grade backend applications using Laravel and PHP.
  • Strong experience designing, implementing, and maintaining APIs.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, with hands-on experience using SQL Server and optimizing queries for performance and reliability.
  • Strong understanding of authentication and authorization mechanisms, including OAuth2 and JWT.
  • Experience implementing caching strategies (e.g., Redis) and data consistency patterns.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy while clearly communicating technical decisions and trade-offs.
  • Experience with collaborative development workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and code quality.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in distributed teams.
  • English proficiency sufficient for technical discussions and documentation.
  • Must be based in Argentina.

Nice To Have

  • Familiarity with or interest in modern front-end frameworks such as Vue 3 or React.
  • Experience with background jobs, queues, or event-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized development environments.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps or similar platforms).
