About the position
Distillery is seeking a senior Data Pre-Sales Architect to own the technical strategy, discovery, and solution shaping of our data consulting engagements at the earliest and most critical stage of the client lifecycle.
You will work directly with prospective clients to deeply understand their data challenges, assess their data maturity, and design compelling, realistic, and scalable data solutions that create measurable business value.
As the primary technical authority during pre-sales, you will influence what we sell, how we sell it, and why clients trust us with their most critical data initiatives. You will operate at the intersection of data architecture, business outcomes, and commercial constraints, ensuring that every data engagement is grounded in technical credibility and execution reality.
This role requires a strong consulting mindset: the ability to lead executive-level conversations, challenge client assumptions, define clear problem statements, and translate complex data landscapes into structured, actionable solution paths. Success in this role means winning the right data deals, setting engagements up for long-term success, and establishing Distillery as a trusted data partner.
Responsibilities
Client Discovery & Advisory
Lead client-facing discovery sessions focused on data architecture, data maturity, analytics gaps, and AI readiness.
Act as the primary technical authority in client conversations during pre-sales.
Translate ambiguous business problems into clear, data-driven use cases with defined assumptions and risks.
Build trust with senior client stakeholders (CTO, Head of Data, Analytics, Product).
Opportunity Qualification & Scoping
Qualify and disqualify opportunities based on technical feasibility, delivery risk, and commercial viability.
Define engagement scope, team composition, high-level timelines, and dependencies.
Protect delivery quality by preventing under-scoped or over-promised data engagements.
Solution Shaping & Sales Support
Design high-level data solution architectures covering ingestion, transformation, storage, analytics, and AI enablement.
Partner closely with the Head of Data Delivery to validate feasibility and delivery assumptions.
Support proposal development, pricing alignment, and RFP responses.
Own the technical narrative in sales decks and written proposals.
Internal Alignment
Act as the bridge between Sales and Data Delivery to ensure clean handoff post-signature.
Provide technical oversight during the initial phase of delivery (typically the first 30 days), including kickoff and early execution, to ensure alignment between what was sold and what is being delivered.
Surface early risks and trade-offs to avoid downstream delivery issues.
Partnerships & Alliances
Support and contribute to Distillery’s data partnerships and alliances with cloud, data platform, and analytics providers.
Collaborate with partners to shape joint solutions, co-sell opportunities, and reference architectures when relevant.
Stay current on partner offerings and positioning to strengthen Distillery’s credibility and differentiation in data-led opportunities.
Requirements
8+ years of experience in data consulting, analytics, or data platform pre-sales.
Proven track record selling data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, or modern data platform initiatives.
Strong understanding of modern data stacks:
- Cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks)
- Data pipelines and orchestration (dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, Spark, etc.)
- Analytics & BI ecosystems
Executive-level communication skills; able to simplify complex data topics.
Experience in Professional Services environments is mandatory.
Willingness to travel for key client engagements, events/conferences.
