About the Position

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead DevOps and infrastructure delivery for a project with one of our key clients. In this role, you will combine hands-on Azure expertise with strong technical judgment, coordinating across backend, frontend, QA, data, and product teams within an engineering organization of 30+ people. The ideal candidate independently investigates unfamiliar systems, defines what applications need to reach production, turns findings into prioritized work, and follows through to validate outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the project's DevOps area with independence and strong technical judgment, investigating existing applications, infrastructure, and data pipelines to identify technical gaps, dependencies, and the people and information needed to move forward.
  • Deliver hands-on changes to the project infrastructure.
  • Define what each application needs to reach production and turn those needs into a clear work plan, building and prioritizing a backlog that balances delivery commitments, critical issues, production readiness, and technical debt.
  • Translate technical findings and stakeholder needs into actionable work for backend, frontend, QA, data, and DevOps specialists, agreeing on ownership, expected outcomes, and acceptance criteria, and validating completed work.
  • Diagnose whether issues originate in infrastructure, application code, integrations, or data processing, and contribute to architecture decisions across multiple applications together with the appropriate technical leads.
  • Investigate ADF-orchestrated Databricks ETL workflows and performance issues using production-like data volumes, assessing partitioning, batching, cleansing, transformation, validation, and failure handling.
  • Support and complete the migration from Bicep and ARM templates to OpenTofu, assessing existing configurations, planning changes and dependencies, and validating deployment behavior.
  • Build and improve deployment pipelines, environment provisioning, and configuration practices across Azure DevOps and GitHub workflows, resolving gaps that affect reliable releases.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for the client's infrastructure processes, documenting and improving workflows for permissions, access rights, provisioning, approvals, and environment configuration.
  • Apply client security and compliance requirements to infrastructure and delivery workflows, coordinating remediation of gaps and verifying that agreed controls are implemented.
  • Work with technical and product stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve pending decisions, and agree on priorities and ownership, coordinating with the production incident owner and the client's central infrastructure team.
  • Identify technical, integration, security, and delivery risks early, and communicate project health through Red/Amber/Green status reporting, including blockers, delivery impact, mitigation plans, and decisions needed.
  • Contribute code, configuration, scripts, and automation where appropriate; when other specialists are needed, provide the diagnosis and scope, coordinate implementation, and validate the result.
  • Identify the approvals, permissions, and support needed to progress, escalate with context, diagnosis, and a proposed next step, and document reusable guidance for the broader engineering team.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior DevOps Engineer or technical lead, including technical ownership and delivery coordination across multiple engineering teams in an enterprise environment.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Azure architecture, including Azure Web Apps, Azure Container Apps, environment provisioning, and access management with Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or OpenTofu and HCL, plus the ability to read, assess, and modify existing Bicep and ARM templates.
  • Experience planning and executing migrations between IaC tools.
  • Experience building and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and GitHub-based workflows, including deployment dependencies, approvals, and environment configuration.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills, preferably with PowerShell, or with Bash.
  • Solid development and backend understanding, particularly .NET/C# and Python, with enough frontend and integration knowledge to diagnose issues across application boundaries.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory orchestration and Databricks ETL workflows, including assessing performance at representative data volumes.
  • Experience contributing to solution architecture across multiple independent applications and evaluating the impact of infrastructure and application changes.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise security standards, compliance requirements, and infrastructure governance applied to cloud environments and delivery processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate unfamiliar systems, build and prioritize a backlog, scope work, and propose solutions without detailed direction.
  • Strong technical leadership and delegation skills across teams.
  • Ability to communicate technical risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to engineering teams, product stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Fluent English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
