Challenges and Solutions
1. BUILDING A SCALABLE, WHITE LABELED INSURANCE PLATFORM
Challenge:
The company needed a web application that could provide instant quotes across home, auto, pet, and vacation insurance, while also supporting multiple carriers with unique requirements. The platform had to scale quickly and be customizable enough to support white-labeled partner instances.
Solution:
Distillery built the MVP with a modular architecture from day one. By separating core logic from branding layers and implementing dynamic theming, we enabled the client to launch and customize new carrier portals without code duplication. This white-label-ready structure now allows new carriers to onboard faster with a seamless quoting experience.

2. MANAGING EVOLVING UI REQUIREMENTS AT SCALE
Challenge:
The UI system required constant adaptation. New quote types, validation rules, and carrier-driven workflows needed to be introduced rapidly while preserving visual consistency.
Solution:
We evolved the design system using Storybook, improving flexibility and reusability of frontend components. This allowed updates to scale across modules without regressions and gave the client a consistent design language across all quoting experiences. The team also migrated all frontend code to TypeScript, improving long-term maintainability and reducing UI bugs during releases.

3. ENSURING QUALITY WHILE MOVING FAST
Challenge:
With an agile product roadmap, the team needed to iterate quickly, but frequent updates made regression bugs and inconsistent test coverage a growing risk.
Solution:
We introduced a robust testing strategy using React Testing Library. By automating critical paths across the quote and validation flows, the development team gained the confidence to release features faster and more frequently, with reduced risk of breakage. Our QA specialists worked in tandem with developers to shift quality checks earlier in the development cycle.

4. BACKEND ALIGNMENT AND API EVOLUTION
Challenge:
The client’s Django backend and SDK-based integration model required constant iteration to support new quote types and validation logic. Adapting to backend changes while maintaining UI fluidity was a core technical challenge.
Solution:
Our frontend team worked closely with backend engineers to co-develop API endpoints, ensuring tight alignment between UI workflows and data contracts. We also supported endpoint refactoring and introduced middleware to gracefully handle changing data models without affecting the end-user experience.
